After you open a Chitika account, it might seem like the only thing to do is copy and paste the ad code onto your website. However, there are many different things to consider before doing so in order to effectively maximize your potential revenue with Chitika. There are three main ways to monetize: Ad Placement, Ad Customization, and the use of Multiple ads.

1. Ad Placement

The absolute best spots you can place the ads are in or as close to the site content as possible. Lets say you just finished writing up a blog post and you can’t decide where to put the ad. Here are your best possible options:
  • Place the ad directly in between your blog post’s title and the actual body of the post
  • Place the ad WITHIN the content of the blog post (i.e. in between paragraphs, lists, etc)
  • Place the ad directly below the post, before the comment option
Any of these options will be a lot more successful than a sidebar or footer ad! Tip: Don’t forget to have at least one ad above the page fold (the first page your site users will see without having to scroll down). The last thing you want to do is make your users work to find your ads.

2. Ad Customization

Customization features available on Chitika ads can vamp up your ad activity. Utilizing these tips is quick and easy… and the results will be more than worth it! These options can be easily modified in your Code Creator under the ad setup tab.
Customization Options:
  • Color - You can change the color of your ad units by using the options within your Code Creator:

Tip: A matching color scheme will greatly improve the flow of your site. Users will have trouble telling the difference between your site and your ads.
  • Font Type:
You can also change the ad text to match your site using these lines of code:
ch_font_title = “font_name”;
ch_font_text = “font_name”;
Since there isn't an automated option for these, I’ll show you what it looks like when you manually insert them in your code (in red):
<script type=”text/javascript”> ch_client = “DEMO”; ch_width = 550; ch_height = 250; ch_type = “mpu”; ch_sid = “Chitika Default”; ch_backfill = 1; ch_color_site_link = “0000cc”; ch_color_title = “0000cc”; ch_color_border = “ffffff”; ch_color_text = “000000″; ch_color_bg = “ffffff”; ch_font_title = “Lucida Sans Unicode”; ch_font_text = “Georgia”; </script> <script src=”http://scripts.chitika.net/eminimalls/amm.js” type=”text/javascript”> </script>
Actual Ad:

Tip: Just like coordinating the colors, coordinating the font will create a seamless transition between the ads and your page.

3. Multiple Ads

Here are a few of the most basic things to know about displaying multiple ads:
  • We recommend up to three ads per page. Any more than that will actually have a negative effect on your ad revenue, as your users will experience “ad blindness” and disregard them completely.
  • You can use Google Adsense with Chitika ads! Many users find that they compliment each other very well.
  • You can use the same ad code on all of your sites! Just remember to add the sites to your list of approved domains.
We also get a lot of questions about using channels in order to track specific ad performance. It’s important to note that channel tracking will only work correctly if that specified channel receives at least 10 clicks per day. So, if you see a channel “Chitika Default” appear, that means that you probably aren’t getting enough clicks for the channel option to work.. However, if you follow all of our tips, you’ll be well on your way! To specify a channel, just type in the desired name in the ad in your Premium Code Panel, shown here:

In this example, I used “Top Page Ad” as my channel name. Now, when I want to check on the performance of the channel, I’ll go into my “Advanced Reports”:

From there, you can select different channels and compare their revenue performance. For those of you who like to edit the code directly, check out how to do so here. Using these tips will kickstart your journey to making the most of your Chitika ads. Do you have any tips that have helped you to boost your Chitika ad revenue?
